A variety of different sized skips is available for both domestic and commercial purpose. The 3 main sizes of skips are available i.e. the 2-Ton mini, 4-Ton midi and the 8-Ton maxi skips. Skips sizes do vary slightly from company to company, but generally, all companies will have fairly standard size skip sizes. One of the most common size skips seen in residential areas in the UK is probably the 8 cubic yard skip.

1.Mini Skip

Mini Skip (2 Ton – Mixed Waste): The mini skip will hold almost 2 cubic meters of waste. That means it can take a total weight of 2 tons if the skip was to be filled with soil or heavy material. This skip can hold 30-35 full black bin bags. It is best for small DIY projects or shed and room clearances or for garden tidy-ups. It is not suitable for furniture or other heavy items such as windows. Mini skips are good for placing on building sites that only generate small amounts of waste, as they will keep the site neat and only take up a small amount of space.

 2.Midi Skip

Midi Skip (4 Ton – Mixed Waste): The midi skip will hold almost 4 cubic meters of waste. That means it can take a total weight of 4 tons if the skip was to be filled with soil or heavy material. This skip will take 65-70 full black bin bags. It is suitable for most DIY jobs or garage clearances. The skip is almost 7 feet long and can hold long items such as doors and radiators. These skips are popularly used for replacing old kitchens or for conservatory bases and also for the garden .

3.Maxi Skip

Maxi Skip (8 Ton – Mixed Waste): The 8-Ton Builders Skip is the backbone of the skip hire industry. This is the most common skip used by builders and construction companies. It can hold 7 cubic yards of waste and is big enough to hold large items and different type of building waste. They are popularly used for large unearthing jobs, such as digging foundations for extensions or for entire house clearances and major renovation projects.
